Budget & Bikini Friendly Foods

IMG_0210
I, like the other 99% of people on earth, live on a budget. I have a decent job, well three jobs actually, and am fortunate enough to enjoy many things. I work hard to earn my money (again three jobs) so I hate the idea of spending it all on food. I am in the camp that believes saving on groceries means splurging on shoes (NIKE shoes in particular). So here are my ten budget and bikini friendly foods.

Whey Protein:My favorite is Optimum Gold Standard and it comes in more flavors than you can imagine. In one scoop, you get 24 grams of protein and only one gram of sugar. Cost 0.75 cents per serving.

The Dirty Dozen

The 12 fruits and veggies you should be buying organic.IMG_0213With over-whelming research and publications about organic foods, it is difficult to ignore the benefits. Among other benefits, buying and eating organic reduces the amount of chemicals you place in your body and it’s better for the environment from the lack of pesticides. However, there are two main things that hinder my organic eating. 1.) Organic produce isn’t always in large supply. 2.) Lets just face it, eating organic is expensive.
Thankfully, I found the “Dirty Dozen.” The Dirty Dozen has become important in my grocery lists and has helped my wallet on weekly shopping trips. The D.D. is a list of 12 items to help you buy organic, healthy foods. It was compiled by the USDA after washing produce with the mother of all washing systems. The produce that made the list still [...]

6 Foods with Healthy Alternatives

Food cravings are time and time again a topic that comes up with weight gain. Its a big issue. I, myself, have an intense craving for peanut butter pretty much throughout the day. I find myself going to the peanut butter jar often and scooping out a little spoonful just to satisfy my craving… thats not good! At least I only purchase peanut butter without any additives like sugar or salt – just peanuts ground up, thats all! Anyway, the point is that we all have cravings and usually it tends to be for something we really shouldn’t be eating if were trying to lose weight.

I want to share with you a healthy list of alternatives to foods that we crave or just foods that we eat often. Here’s to Clean Eating.

We are all looking for easy ways to lose weight and keep weight off. I know I am. I am especially interested in food and how it is so important to our health and the old saying “You are what you eat.” is definitely true in my book. I’ve comprised a list of 10 food items that can help you on your weight loss journey. Hope this list is as beneficial to you as it is for me.

Whole grains (oats, brown rice): Your body works hard at breaking down whole grains, burning about twice as many calories as it would with processed foods.
Apples: Helps your body by limiting the amount of fat your cells will absorb. Apples also make you feel full, eat one before a meal and you’ll eat less during the meal.
Peanuts: Apparently the curb hunger cravings, slows your blood [...]

Happy New Year! What is Your New Years Resolution?

It’s that time again. A brand new year and the perfect time to state your resolutions! I have a hard time making resolutions and I am sure I am not alone. Committing to something is hard. But look at it as a goal, and a beneficial one at that. Find something you want to do for yourself this year that will benefit you or your family in some way and state that as your resolution. Why not do something good for yourself or someone else? It can be rewarding either way.

One of the top resolutions of all time is to lose weight or get into shape. The holidays are full of cookies, pies, and many other treats that are so very tempting and I know I sure over ate. So, losing this overindulgence weight is for sure my resolution. And plus [...]

Good Fats vs. Bad Fats

One of the biggest diet myths is to stay away from fats: “You’ll gain more weight!” “They are bad for you!” “Non-fat is best for everything if you’re on a diet!” But this is all very untrue. In fact we need fats… the “good fats” not “bad fats”, of course. But, why would we NEED fats and how do we know what’s “good” and what’s “bad”? Well, I’m about to tell you! You can read more about good fats for your health in this book, Get Your Fats Straight. But for now, here is my guide on fats.

Why do we need fats?

Fats help absorb vitamins and minerals and prevents vitamin deficiencies.
Fats give us energy that our body needs, especially if blood sugar supply runs out – fat acts as [...]

Look and Feel Good Around the Holidays

First off I want to say Happy (early) Halloween! It’s my favorite time of year!

But it is also a sort of scary time of year, and I am not talking about ghouls and goblins scary! One thing that most fear around this time of year is gaining weight… first we have the abundance of sweet stuff surrounding us with Halloween candy, cookies, and other treats. The shorter and colder days – leads us to be more lazy with exercise. And of course the other holidays coming up that are full of family get togethers that always consist of eating lots of rich, tasty meals and the largest assortment of desserts you’ve ever seen! “How do we get past this without gaining weight?” you might ask. Well, everyone is different and there is no one answer to that question.

If you’re lucky, you [...]

Eating Healthy Foods + Tasty Oatmeal Recipe

When you are on the 3 Day Diet you should follow the diet exactly. But after 3 days of doing that you will have 4 days of eating what you want. This does not mean you should over-indulge in practically anything you desire! You are in the process of trying to lose weight, so I suggest you eat healthy foods and don’t overeat. A balanced diet of plenty of vegetables and fruits, healthy grains, lean proteins and dairy, and healthy fats is the best way to go. Try to stay away from eating out at restaurants. They often will cook with unhealthy fats and it almost always ends up being an unhealthy meal no matter how healthy you think it might be. The only way to make sure you are eating healthy foods is by you cooking them yourself. Don’t fret, I am here to help you with easy [...]
