I woke up this morning to the news that Hostess is closing up shop! WOW! That’s shocking! I haven’t eaten a Hostess product in about 3+ years (actually this is a guess, because I really can’t remember!)… but it still strikes a sad chord in me. Not because I want to eat these products or crave them, but just the iconic value that Hostess had in my life… growing up I LOVED the cupcakes, the donuts (“Donettes”), the Ho-Ho’s…. when I think of them in my mouth now though, I feel kinda queasy! Too sweet for my taste! But the memories are good times with my friends eating Ho-Ho’s, laughing and having a good time.
Nowadays I wouldn’t ever eat these products… unless I was starving! And there was nothing else to eat, I might. They just are nutrition-less… if that’s a word. My biggest concern is the fat content. It’s NOT GOOD. I was actually surprised to read today that Hostess products have zero Trans Fats – remember my last post was about good vs. bad fats and Trans Fats are the worst! So shocking to me…. BUT, they still contain saturated fats and that is a “Bad Fat” also… but not as bad as Trans Fats. They can still lead to cardiovascular disease and some cancers if eaten regularly.
I actually found an awesome recipe on Pinterest for the Hostess Cupcakes (pictured above) – that has only a little bit of saturated fats, no trans fats and is a healthier version of Hostess Cupcakes for sure! So, if you’re feeling depressed about Hostess leaving the world, fear no more – make your own! I found the recipe on a blog called “Life on Food” – the recipe is “No-Stess Cupcakes“. (get it… No-stess : Ho-stess) Check it out and ENJOY!
