Just a little weekly fitness motivation

This motivational quote is so true. First you have to have the motivation to get off your butt and get exercise. Then you can focus on forming the healthy fitness habits. I’ve read online that it takes about 66 days (roughly 2 months) to form a good solid habit. I think thats doable. Nothing is instantaneous! As much as we wish it could be, its not. You have to work at it. Just like you have to work at getting the body you want, or the health you desire, you must work at forming the habits to do so.

So, go on, start today. Get on your workout gear, put your headphones on your head with your upbeat playlist and walk out the door towards whatever exercise you can do. You can do it! I’m going to right now! You should [...]

The Truth About Halloween Candy, Plus Healthy Alternatives

With Halloween just a couple days away I thought I’d talk a little about candy! Pretty much everyone loves candy. Chocolate bars (snickers, baby ruth, butterfinger), lollypops, licorice, tootsie rolls, skittles, m&m’s, smarties, peanut butter cups… the list goes on and on. It’s so easy to come across candy this time of year. People generously give it away everywhere you go: doctors office, movie rental store, your work office kitchen, rental agency, and even the dentists office! It’s so hard to follow your diet when all this temptation is around right?

I have already pointed out in previous posts that I am not against a little treat here and there, BUT, I highly recommend staying away from commercial Halloween candy. There are so many other sweet treats you can enjoy that aren’t full of artificial flavors, artificial colors, hydrogenated oils, and other [...]

Look and Feel Good Around the Holidays

First off I want to say Happy (early) Halloween! It’s my favorite time of year!

But it is also a sort of scary time of year, and I am not talking about ghouls and goblins scary! One thing that most fear around this time of year is gaining weight… first we have the abundance of sweet stuff surrounding us with Halloween candy, cookies, and other treats. The shorter and colder days – leads us to be more lazy with exercise. And of course the other holidays coming up that are full of family get togethers that always consist of eating lots of rich, tasty meals and the largest assortment of desserts you’ve ever seen! “How do we get past this without gaining weight?” you might ask. Well, everyone is different and there is no one answer to that question.

If you’re lucky, you [...]

Introducing the Blood Type Food Guide App!

Were happy to announce the release of our newest app – Blood Type Food Guide. It will help you to discover which foods are good for your blood type.

According to this diet plan, health issues such as infections, allergies, bloating, weight gain, lethargy, and even diseases such as heart disease or cancer are all caused by what you eat.  Our bodies react to certain foods and can cause negative chemical reactions when we eat foods that are incompatible with our blood type – which in turn results in many bad health issues listed above.

Buy this app for the iPhone: Blood Type Food Guide now – which will guide you towards foods that are good for your type. This app has quick-start diet overview, information for all blood types, extensive food list for every blood type (these lists are sortable & searchable for easy discovery), [...]

Pre and Post Work-out Fuel Recipes + Circuit Workout Routine

Working out is hard to do. First it takes the motivation to get out there and do it, and then it takes the energy to get the most out of it. I have talked about motivation in a previous post here. But for energy, we need fuel – and that fuel is food, of course. But not just any food. Certain foods are great for providing work-out fuel. And I am going to share with you a couple recipes for pre or post workout fuel. These recipes are also found in our Flat Belly Diet Coach App for iPhone. The first is one of my absolute favorites, toast with nut butter and banana slices! I’ve been munching on this since I was a kid and its super tasty and full of carbs, healthy fats and protein. The cool thing about nut butter toast is you can do any kind of [...]

App Review: True Food, Shoppers Guide to Avoiding GMOs

Unfortunately, GM foods are not labeled in the US. Doctors and scientists warn they can be bad for you or the environment; but still, our food is not labeled. Don’t fear though, because The True Food Network (aka: The Center for Food Safety) came through for us with their iPhone/iPad app True Food! It is also available for Android – search “true food”.

A few days ago I posted about new findings regarding GMO’s. I also listed some foods to watch out for. During my research I came across this FREE iPhone/Android app and I just had to share a few notes on this app because I found it pretty helpful!

First of all, its handy because you have a list of foods right there when you are shopping. No more trying to remember what you saw online was GMO. Or, no more wasting paper printing out [...]

You Are What You Eat – Guide to Genetically Modified Foods (GMOs)

There are many different diets out there. Diets to lose weight, diets to watch your sodium intake, diets that are good for your heart, diets for anti-again and many more. There are also diets that are more lifestyle eating plan specific such as raw food diet, vegan diet, and eating clean diet. I have been really interested in eating clean lately. With all the artificial flavors, colors, additives and chemicals being put in our foods, its really got me worried. Then we come to how our food is processed and sold to us and that makes me worry even more! That brings me to GMO (genetically modified organism) foods and non-organic foods.

GMO’s are foods that have been altered using genetic engineering techniques. There are many questions raised these days on wether or not they are safe to eat and many protests [...]

What is Your Motivation?

“What is your motivation?”, is the question I am asking today. I talked a little about motivation in a post a couple weeks ago: “Who Needs Motivation?” – but this week I am going to help you discover YOUR motivation.

This past week I have been really working on my fitness. I’ve taken up jogging more regularly lately. Exercise really makes me feel good. When I begin I feel exhausted and want to quit right away, I look deep inside for my motivation for doing this.

I had this talk with my husband this morning about how he needs to exercise more and he replied that he needs some kind of motivation to exercise, such as riding his bike because he has to get somewhere, like work. (Keep in mind this is coming from a pretty healthy and thin man – who doesn’t [...]

Eating out the healthy way

The weekend is here and with that comes major distractions to ones diet! I know this from personal experience! I posted last time about how to avoid food cravings. But what about food distractions?! The food that is blatantly in front of your face and so easy to just reach out and grab?! How do we go about eating out the healthy way? Like when your friends say, “Hey, lets go out for happy hour.” So you go and they want to order a pitcher of margaritas, and then the server brings you chips and salsa, and then everyone decides to order dinner…. wow, the calories just keep adding up don’t they!

When it comes to the drinks, if you want to not drink a lot – and avoid those “empty” calories, order something you wouldn’t normally order. That way you will be less likely to pound it down and order [...]
