I, like the other 99% of people on earth, live on a budget. I have a decent job, well three jobs actually, and am fortunate enough to enjoy many things. I work hard to earn my money (again three jobs) so I hate the idea of spending it all on food. I am in the camp that believes saving on groceries means splurging on shoes (NIKE shoes in particular). So here are my ten budget and bikini friendly foods.
-
Whey Protein:
My favorite is Optimum Gold Standard and it comes in more flavors than you can imagine. In one scoop, you get 24 grams of protein and only one gram of sugar. Cost 0.75 cents per serving.
-
Eggs:
I love the versatility of eggs. They are perfect for breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner. The more eggs you buy the cheaper they get. Cost 0.20 cents per egg.
-
Quinoa:
The super grain! Quinoa is a complete protein and perfect for vegetarians or meat eaters. You can replace your morning oatmeal or brown rice with this grain for even more protein and add it to soups. I get it at Costco when I see it – but its also on Amazon.com here: truRoots Organic Quinoa . Cost 0.21 cents per serving if you buy in bulk.
-
In-season Fruit:
Fruit is a must on any healthy eating plan. I go for the in-season fruits because they are normally less inexpensive. However, apples and bananas are usually budget friendly year-round. Cost 0.20 to 0.75 cents per piece of fruit.
-
Spinach:
Packed with nutrients this green is the prefect accompaniment to salads, soup, smoothies, and much more. Cost 0.50 cents per serving.
-
Coffee and Tea:
Buy it at the supermarket instead of paying big bucks at your local coffeehouse. Cost 0.20 to 0.50 cents a serving.
-
Garlic:
The easiest season you can add to all your foods. Garlic boosts your immune system, fights cancer, and enhances memory. Cost 0.30 cents per bulb.
-
Yogurt:
Packed with protein and makes a great snack. Add it to smoothies, dip your fruit in it, or freeze it for a fun treat. Cost 1.00 dollar per serving less if you buy it multi serving container.
-
Oatmeal:
High in fiber and low in fat. Oatmeal is cheap and easy to use in all your recipes. Cost 0.13 cents a serving.
-
Tofu:
Apart from a vegetarians dream protein source, tofu mixed with the right ingredients makes a healthy pudding. Add it to your next stir-fry for meatless Monday. Cost 0.50 cents a serving.
